Did I Happen to Mention? MBNA Sucks

by Sean

Was just going through this sites stats and stumbled across an interesting tidbit: a full 38% of my referrals from search engines go to my ‘Poor [tag]MBNA[/tag]‘ post (re: their declining revenue because of high customer payments) back in April.

Haven’t used ‘em in forever, but they still send me a bill every month showing that big ol’ goose egg as a balance, along with the ever present handful of ‘3.99%-for-3-month and then back to our arbitrary-crushingly-high-interest-rate’ balance transfer checks (I get a packet of these, oh, weekly, as I’m sure you do). Glancing at it tonite (just to make sure nothing shows up on it), I see that my rate is now 24.99%, up from the almost-as-ridiculous 21.25% the last time I bothered checking. (I keep the card merely because it helps with the credit utilization portion of my FICO score.)

So, just to reiterate, [tag]MBNA sucks[/tag].

(And as an aside, anyone know some adsense-foo on blacklisting ads? It’d be nice to remove their ads here, and whenever I mention ‘em, I get lots of them…)

  • They should be reported if they are indeed using the illegal techniques mentioned above.
  • Anyone who wants to improve a credit score should first do some basic housekeeping: Get a free copy of your credit report from one of the three major credit bureaus click here, scour it for any mistakes and ask the bureau to remove incorrect information. Once that's accomplished, you can start to work on burnishing your score.

Have you people ever thought to pay your bills on time and not spend beyond your means?
You would not have a problem with mbna id you did this.
    You all suck

There is a class action Suit against them and other companies as well where they charged additional fees, for any time you used your card internationally.

  • MBNA does suck. They also use illegal techniques to try and get people to pay.

    Specifically,

§ 1692 e(5) Threaten to take any action that cannot legally be taken or that is not intended to be taken
§ 1692 e(4) Nonpayment of any debt will result in the arrest or imprisonment of any person or the seizure, garnishment, attachment

I did end up settling with them for around 20% of the amount I owed.

Credit card companies are criminal -- plain and simple.
