Did I Happen to Mention? MBNA Sucks

Was just going through this sites stats and stumbled across an interesting tidbit: a full 38% of my referrals from search engines go to my ‘Poor MBNA‘ post (re: their declining revenue because of high customer payments) back in April.
Haven’t used ‘em in forever, but they still send me a bill every month showing that big ol’ goose egg as a balance, along with the ever present handful of ‘3.99%-for-3-month and then back to our arbitrary-crushingly-high-interest-rate’ balance transfer checks (I get a packet of these, oh, weekly, as I’m sure you do). Glancing at it tonite (just to make sure nothing shows up on it), I see that my rate is now 24.99%, up from the almost-as-ridiculous 21.25% the last time I bothered checking. (I keep the card merely because it helps with the credit utilization portion of my FICO score.)
So, just to reiterate, MBNA sucks.
(And as an aside, anyone know some adsense-foo on blacklisting ads? It’d be nice to remove their ads here, and whenever I mention ‘em, I get lots of them…)

[...] How’d they end up at those levels? Really pretty simple: we used the MBNA, almost but not quite to their limits, continued to timely pay at least the minimums - and most of the time, not much more - and every six months or so they’d tack on another $500 or $1000 or $2500 with which to get ourselves in deeper. MBNA was particularly good at that, always seeming to read when we really needed that extra bit of debt. (Did I happen to mention, MBNA sucks? No? There. I mentioned it.) [...]

[...] No Progress? Sure There Was! Despite the fact that no big progress was made towards eliminating that credit card debt on Chase, just like last month it’s in lieu of taking out even more on our line of credit. Chase is locked up at a ridiculously low rate “for the life of the balance”, so I’m not feeling particularly driven to get it paid off rapidly, only to have to turn around and tack on extra to the not-as-ridiculously-low-rate line of credit. That said, I’m also in no hurry to add any more to that Chase total, even if I could use one of their lock-in-the-rate-for-life balance transfer checks. Yes, I know, I’m not being entirely consistent here. I’m sure I could pay a little less interest going that route, but personal finances aren’t entirely about the logic - I simply don’t trust credit card companies to use them like I did in the past! [...] The Alpha John likes Chase just about as much as I like MBNA. He just wrote of a conversation with Chase customer service representative that just about anyone who has suffered through dealing with even the smallest problem with a credit card company has dreamt about: “Alright. Are you authorized to close my account? Because that is who I need to speak to right now.” [...]

MBNA does suck. They also use illegal techniques to try and get people to pay.
Specifically,
§ 1692 e(5) Threaten to take any action that cannot legally be taken or that is not intended to be taken
§ 1692 e(4) Nonpayment of any debt will result in the arrest or imprisonment of any person or the seizure, garnishment, attachment
I did end up settling with them for around 20% of the amount I owed.
Credit card companies are criminal — plain and simple.
Peace

There is a class action Suit against them and other companies as well where they charged additional fees, for any time you used your card internationally.
