Finding Time

by Sean

A [tag]law student[/tag] working his summer job at a law firm asks how us working people find the time.

My answer? Not being a [tag]lawyer[/tag]… ;)

Kidding.

Well, sort of.

Sure, us tax [tag]accountant[/tag]s have times where we never seem to make it home before everyone else is asleep, and family time does suffer a bit. But it’s only a couple months of that craziness before we can get back to our usual slacking off.

But really, it’s mostly a matter of prioritizing what’s important in your life.

If earning more money was my main [tag]priority[/tag], sure, I could probably work more hours, endear myself even more to my employer, and possibly make a little bit more money via a raise or some extra overtime hours. Or, I could almost certainly find a second job and earn a few more dollars via that route. My favorite, as I’m doing now, is spending a little time each day developing a few ideas I have for some [tag]passive income[/tag] – I like this one the most anyway, since after a successful idea is put in play, the extra income coming in shouldn’t require nearly as much continual extra time investment as, say, [tag]overtime[/tag] hours.

But while money is certainly a reasonable priority, it’s not my main one. If I was offered triple the salary in exchange for double the hours today, I wouldn’t think twice about passing it up. My time with my [tag]family[/tag] is worth infinitely more than anything they’d be willing to offer for my time at work. And until there comes a time where I can somehow buy back time with my 2-year-old son, that’s just the way it will have to be.
