Won At The Casino? Only If They Say So…

by Sean

I’ve never been much of a gambler. Oh, sure, I’ve been known to get together with a few buddies and play a few hours of microlimit poker. But that’s more of an excuse to drink a few beers, smoke a few cigars, and just hang out with good friends than having anything to do with the money being thrown around (for instance, $10 would be considered a big loss for the evening).

And playing in the casinos? Eh, holds absolutely no interest for me. I have never had a problem finding all kinds of ways to spend money (as exemplified by our debt) without the aid of cards/dice/slots, random strangers in bow ties, and free drinks. I know the house sets the game up to win in the long term anyway, so the whole process seems a – no pun intended – sucker’s bet anyway.

I see the house can also change the rules after the game’s played if they don’t care for the outcome.

The machine said the win was worth a jackpot of $209,716.40.

But the Manitoba Lotteries Corp. says that in some cases, a machine’s software can make serious errors. It says nickel machines normally don’t pay out more than $3,000.

Something tells me if the software reversed those odds and paid out $3,000 when it should have paid out $209,000, the casinos wouldn’t be arguing with the machine… ;)

Think I’ll just stick to my smoky basement game!
