…when you’re doing a little home renovating?

Might as well…

I’ve heard my wife say this phrase more often in the last three months than ever before! (OK, yes, it’s come out of my mouth more than once as well.)

  • Might as well go for that beautiful tile for the bathroom floor. It’s not that much more…”
  • Might as well put those awesome 3″ marble kitchen counters in…
  • Might as well have him build a bigger island while he’s adding those cabinets…
  • Might as well replace that old water heater when the plumbers are here (because we’ll never get them back out here!)…”
  • “As long as we’re doing [whatever], might as well do it right…”

So far, we’ve been pretty good at fighting our impulses to to go more than a bit crazy with our spending. We’ve both lived in apartments so long that we know what we’d love to do. But we’ve also lived enough to know that it just isn’t worth it if, in the end, we’re drowning in debt. (But we will be replacing that water heater - half because the one currently there is old enough that replacing it definitely makes sense because of energy efficiency, and half because, well, we just may never get those plumbers back out when they finally get everything done!)

We’ll continue to be good so we can be a little bad later. But those temptation, they are mighty… ;)
