Accountant Finally Finishes His Taxes

by Sean

Three days late, but I’ve finally finished ours…

I wasn’t too concerned about the April 17th deadline, since I had a pretty solid grasp on where we stood and knew we’d be getting at least a small refund. Our state refund was right where I thought it’d be, but in the end our federal was almost triple what I thought it was going to be.

You see, I forgot about something, though it shouldn’t have been far from my mind since almost every client had a photocopied news article or printed out email about it included with the paperwork they brought in: the telephone excise tax refund.

In the end, the state will be dropping a cool Hamilton back into our account in a week or two while we’ll get $78 back from the Feds when I was only expecting $25.

Quite the windfall, huh? I’ll have to try not to spend it all in one place… ;)

I know the feeling to well….. try being responsible for over 100 clients tax returns, stressful isn’t the word :D

The best advice is to try and keep on top of things during the year, Its easier said than done, but I think it sets your mind at rest when you know you have already done 60% of your accounts a month before the deadline.

    Nice post, Phill
