Snowball’s Chance in Hell

On the heels of the recent Federal rate cut, ING Direct acted the early mover and dropped their interest rates on the Orange savings as well as their Electric Orange checking accounts. The other shoe fell with HSBC Direct stripping off a half-percent, plus a bit.

So I’m left oh-so-patiently waiting for the inevitable next step: the lower interest rates reflected on my credit card statements…

Nothing Like A Little Hypocracy: The Rugby Edition

A little scrum work…Despite my previous rant on the wastefulness of TV, I just added more watching of it to my life. Plus, in defiance of my goal of getting rid of the ol’ sinker around the neck debt, I’m now paying a little extra to do so! But then, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to hold out for long…

Footy’s call was just too strong. I broke down and subscribed to Setanta on DirecTV so I could get my World Cup Rugby fix. I doubt fifteen bucks a month for the next two months is going to break us. But I’ll have to make a point in finding some areas to scrimp on my spending just to keep me honest.

Of course, the first few games I’ve caught have been ridiculously just a tad lopsided. The US vs. England match was interesting, in that we only lost by 18. I was expecting 50+. But we are nothing but minnows in this particular shark tank anyway. Which might have something to do with Rugby’s almost nonexistent following over here: we don’t dominate it.

Plus, in a country as litigious as ours, any game that has, for instance, rules covering blood substitutions is going to have a hard time here in the ol’ US!

Pads? Helmets? Time outs? American football is for wimps! ;)

Closing in on $31,000 Saved…

Rustbucket by Stewpendous @ FlickrOr so says Consumer Reports! :)

I glanced down at the odometer of my lil’ Saturn SL1 and saw it slowly but surely creeping up on the 200,000 mile mark. Still a few thousand miles to go, but it won’t be too long. Still purrs like a kitten - despite the Check Engine Soon light that comes on periodically ever since we got her - and would love to see the thing hit another couple hundred thousand.

But, alas, not counting on it, so I occasionally take the casual stroll through the Cars for Sale section of the local classified, if only to get an idea what a good used vehicle might set me back. More than once a temptation has popped up, but I’ve always been the type to drive a car into the ground before bothering to replace it.
